Clay Hill Christian Retreat began as a vision to make a difference in the lives of people by introducing them to God’s plan for their lives. Our focus is to lead Spirit-filled lives for His purpose as we reach out to others offering hope for lives filled with hurt and despair.
This summer we hosted “Camp Survival – Equip for the Call” for area young people. We ministered to nearly 60 kids over that week, making cane poles for fishing, paracord bracelets, and other crafts. We allowed them time to do some fishing while sharing with them the ultimate fishing experience, becoming “Fishers of Men.” We had a great time with the kids but soon realized that one week isn’t enough. Some of these children need to know that their community cares about them every hour of every day and that there is a way to live without drugs, alcohol, and violence. Some just need to know that they are loved.
Many children in our society need to learn to respect themselves as well as others. Lack of respect and discipline is often an underlying factor in poor academic performance. In order to excel in life children need a high self-esteem that comes from doing the right thing and in successfully accomplishing a task. The state has formed a committee to study discipline because it is such a problem. Discipline is a major problem in Clay County Schools, and this is no small part of the overall problem which these kids face.
Our goal is to reach out to these children through after-school, weekend, and summer programs to show them that they are loved, and that their lives matter, all the while teaching respect and pointing them toward Jesus. We are excited about the difference we might make through the development of positive relationships.
